1-Year-Old Class

Our One-Year-Old Program provides a safe, loving, and responsive environment where our youngest learners can explore, grow, and develop at their own pace. At this age, children learn best through relationships, movement, and sensory-rich experiences, and our classroom is designed to support all three.

 

The curriculum focuses on early social-emotional development, language acquisition, gross and fine motor skills, and early independence. Teachers engage children in meaningful interactions throughout the day—talking, singing, reading, and playing—to support early communication and bonding.

 

Learning experiences include:
• Sensory exploration and tactile play
• Music and movement
• Story time and early language exposure
• Fine and gross motor activities that support crawling, walking, and coordination

 

Our classroom routines are intentionally structured yet flexible to meet the individual needs of each child, including feeding, diapering, napping, and transitions, all handled with care and consistency to help children feel secure.

 

Daily activities emphasize:
• Building trust and strong teacher-child relationships
• Encouraging curiosity and exploration
• Supporting early self-help skills and independence

 

Families receive ongoing communication and developmental updates, ensuring a strong partnership between home and school as each child grows during this important first year.

 

NOTE: Per North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) child care regulations, children enrolled in our One-Year-Old classroom must be independently walking at the time they begin the program. For safety reasons, non-mobile children may not be placed in a classroom with mobile children, as differences in mobility can increase the risk of accidental injury. This requirement helps ensure a safe learning environment for all children in our care.
